The Hon. Vice President, Ambassador Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh on Friday 19th May, 2017 graced the Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony of the Magburaka Secondary School For Boys, an Alma Mater of His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on whose behalf he conveyed warm greetings and best wishes for the celebrations and continued growth and development of the school.
Delivering the Keynote Address, VP. Foh said he feel honoured yet considerably humbled to be the conveyor of goodwill messages from His Excellency the President. He furthered that he is happy and proud to be part of such moment that is about the Past, the Present and the Future of not only the Magburaka Secondary School, but also about the future of the nation.
According to VP. Foh, Speech Days and Prize-Giving Ceremonies are periods of reflection and introspection.Magburaka, he stated, has made Sierra Leoneans proud in many ways. Dubbed the Oxford of the North, the very first Secondary School to be opened in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone has produced the first democratically elected President of the Republic from a Secondary School in the Provinces, in the person of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma. It is also on record that the Class of 1964 of Government Secondary School for Boys, Magburaka had the best Cambridge School Certificate Examinations Result in the entire country. “I am proud to let you know that my elder brother 867 Mohamed Seedii Foh was among the seven Grade Ones (Grade 1s) of this School in 1964”, averred the Hon. Vice President.
Addressing the Old Boys, VP. Foh cautioned that as they reflect, they need not compare themselves with each other. He noted that they will all not be like 1245 Ernest Bai Koroma, but reminded them that they are all great achievers in their own respective trades and endeavours.
He entreated them to also reflect on how they can be of service to their school, their community and the country; this he said, is the essence of good and purposeful education - to give back, so that together we can all build a productive society.
VP. Foh concluded by congratulating the recipients of prizes for their outstanding performances, whilst encouraging the rest of the school to work hard, quoting a passage from the Good Book that says “if thou doest well, thou shalt be rewarded”. He saluted the Principal and Teachers whom he said are working under challenging circumstances to produce our future leaders.
The Hon. Vice President climaxed his address by donating brand new giant coloured printer, a desk top computer and cartoons of high quality A4 papers to the Magburaka Secondary School for Boys.
