Sierra Leone News : Africell Switches on Symbolic Ramadan Crescent Moon

Africell mobile company, one of the leading mobile companies in Sierra Leone has on Saturday 27th May 2017, switched on its symbolic Ramadan Crescent Moon at its Edifice, Wilberforce in Freetown.

 

Africell’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura said Africell is a company that respects all faiths in the country, and is pleased to join Muslims in Sierra Leone and all over the World in heralding the Holy Month of Ramadan.

 

Joe Abass Bangura maintained that,in line with their proud tradition of always being at the cutting edge of technological innovation in the industry, Africell will mark this event, for the first time in Sierra Leone with the switching on of its symbolic Ramadan Crescent Moon. He stated that Islam emerged in Arabia from where it travelled along the desert trade routes largely by night and navigation depended upon the position of the moon. “The moon in Islam thus represents the guidance of God on the path through life” Joe Abass averred.

The Africell Chief Cooperate Affairs Officer, went on to say that, living up to its reputation for exceptional promotions that provide their subscribers with the opportunity to celebrate their religious festivals, play fun games and win great prizes in the process, “We are also announcing the launch of the Africell Ramadan Show 2017 – giving our subscribers the opportunity to win over five hundred million Leones (Le 500,000,000)” Bangura said.

 

He further that, to participate in the show, Africell subscribers should send blank SMS to or call 777 to automatically qualify for the electronic draw for that day. He went on to say that “Every SMS sent or call made to 777 will incur a charge of 650 Leones; but subscribers will be awarded a bonus credit of the same amount, which must be utilized before 12 midnight on the same day” Bangura stated.

 

Joe Abass Bangura continued that non Africell subscribers can also take part by purchasing a new Sim card loaded with Le 410-talk time and two SMS at a cost of Le 500. As soon as the Sim is registered and the subscribers sends their blank SMS or call 777, they will get 2 chances on the draw for that day. Subscriber’s chances for winning increases with every blank SMS or call made to 777.

 

The Chief Corporate Officer of Africell Mobile Company Sierra Leone stated that a live draw will be held from Mondays to Saturdays between 10:00pm and 11:00pm with effect from Monday, 29th May up to Saturday 24th June 2017. The show will be broadcast live on AYV TV with simultaneous broadcasts on AIRadio and major radio stations nationwide. The studio theme for the show will be made of 42 Stars on the left side and 30 Moons on the right side and a sliding door in the middle. Bangura explained further that during the draw, qualifying numbers will be randomly drawn electronically in the studio. On selection of a number, the subscriber’s phone will be dialled then prompted by the presenter to choose from one of 30 serially numbered Moons.

 

He disclosed that the prizes to be won at this stage include; Freezers, Televisions, Generators, ITel 3G++ Phones, Gigabytes of data and minutes of talk time and cash prizes.

 

The ceremony brought together Islamic scholars across the country, government ministers, members of parliament, and the public.
