Sierra Leone News : Gold Fraudster Remanded in Detention

Magistrate Dr. Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 has on yesterday June 1st, 2017 remanded in custody one Mohamed Chernor Bah at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown for allegedly converting to his own use and benefit the sum of eight hundred and seventeen million five hundred thousand Leones which is equivalent to $ 109,000 United States Dollars entrusted to him by one Justin Bundu Kamara for the purpose of buying gold.

 

The prosecution witness, one Sheku Bangura testified in court yesterday 1st June 2017 that sometime in December 2016 his son came from China and he said to him that he wanted to engage in doing gold business on behalf of some Chinese investors. However, he said that the Chinese investors have demanded to see a sample of the gold from Sierra Leone. He went on to say that his wife, Isata Bangura said that she had a friend, Aminata who know a man called Mr. Mohamed Chernoh Bah now the accused person that deals in gold. He added that his wife invited Aminata to their house to discuss the issue. He went on to say that after their fruitful deliberations, Aminata assured them that she will talk to the accused person about the business.

 

Sheku Bangura continued to say that the following day, Aminata gave them a piece of information and together with the complainant Justin Bundu Kamara and Aminata they went to the resident of the accused person at N0.14 Black Hall road in Freetown. Sheku Bangura added that subsequent to the discussion they had with the accused person Mohamed Chernor Bah, he agreed that he will buy the gold for them.  The prosecution witness went further to say that in his presence the complainant first gave the accused person some money for the purchase of gold. He added that upon the request of the accused person they went to Kono. He went on to say that when they arrived in Kono the accused person told them that he was going to buy the gold.

 

It was at this juncture that the prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Kamara seek for an adjournment and Magistrate Dr. Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara then adjourned the matter to Monday 5th of June 2017 for continuation of the testimony of Sheku Bangura.  Magistrate Dr. Binneh Kamara ordered that the accused person Mohamed Chernor Bah remanded at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Center in Freetown.
