Deputy Publicity Secretary 1 of the All Peoples Congress (APC) Party, Hon. Cornelius Deveaux during a telephone interview with Awareness Times Newspaper on Sunday 4th June 2017, debunked and lambasted a press release from the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) accusing the APC party over the arrest and trials of the Chairman and Leader of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, who is fondly called MKM.

Hon. Deveaux stated that the APC didn’t order the arrest of Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray but that Kamaraimba was arrested by police for alleged being in possession of small arm contrary to the laws of the land.

He went on to say that Sierra Leone is a country that is governed by law and that if a person breaks any of the laws of the land, he/she has a case to answer.

Therefore, he stated that neither APC Party nor the government ordered the arrest of MKM.

“The SLPP’s press release is like a drowning man trying to hold on a straw. So therefore, as long as Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray has contravened the laws of this country, he has a case to answer” said Hon. Cornelius Deveaux.

It could be recalled that the SLPP in a press release issued on Friday 2nd June, 2017, signed by its National Secretary General, Ambassador Ali Badara Kamara, said:

“The SLPP strongly condemns this act of political intimidation which is becoming a pattern for the APC. It is definitely an attempt by the APC to cow Mr. Mansaray into submission.

The party calls on the Government to unconditionally release the ADP Leader, Mr. Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray who was defending himself... Also, the party demands that the ADP and all other political parties are provided free space to play their role in advancing our democracy.”

However, Hon. Cornelius Deveaux maintained that the SLPP is just hell-bent to paint the APC negative to the public. Hon. Deveaux continued that the APC led government doesn’t believe in the politics of intimidation and that even the people can attest to that.
