Sierra Leone News : Alleged Case of Embezzlement at Key Stone Bank

One Josephine Kamara a cashier of Key Stone Bank in Sierra Leone on Wednesday 14th June 2017 was arraigned before Magistrate Dr. Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara on six counts charge of embezzlement and larceny by servant amounting to the sum of twenty one million Leones from the account of one Ibrahim Sorie Turay.

 

According to police charge shit, the accused Josephine Kamara being a staff ( cashier ) of Key Stone Bank at Lumley branch in the West End of Freetown on a diverse dates between Wednesday 22nd  March and Tuesday 9th May 2017 allegedly  embezzled the total sum of twenty one million Leones from the account of one Ibrahim Sorie Turay.

 

The defense lawyer, J. Goody representing the accused person, Josephine Kamara in his bail application for his client told the court that the accused person have worked for Key Stone Bank for the past three years. He added that the accused person has a permanent abode within the jurisdiction of the court and that she would not jump bail. He went on to say that the accused person has reliable sureties to enter into her recognizant.

 

The prosecutor Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Kamara objected to the bail application of the defense counsel on the following grounds. Firstly, the seriousness of the offense. Secondly, the prosecutor added that there is a likelihood of the accused person interfering with their witnesses because there is a common relationship existing between the accused person and their witnesses. 

 

Magistrate Dr. Abu Bakarr Binneh Kamara having hearing both the bail application of the defense lawyer and the objection of the prosecutor thereto, Magistrate Binneh Kamara granted bail to the accused person Josephine Kamara in the sum of thirty million Leones with one surety in like sum and that the surety should produce a National Passport and must reside in the Western Area of Freetown and the bail should be approved by the Deputy Master and Registrar of the High Court of Freetown. Magistrate Dr. Binneh Kamara adjourned the matter to Wednesday June 21 2017 for continuation.
