In his resolve to boost the disadvantaged people during the Ramadan festive, the Kono District Council Chairman, Richard Abdulraman Koninga has over the weekend, this year 2017 donated assorted food items to the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI) Kono Branch at the Kono District Council Premises, D.O Barracks, Koidu City.
The occasion attracted among the SLUDI members; the blind, polio victims, visual inspired persons, persons with disability and war wounded/affected victims. The ceremony also attracted the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Kono District Council (KDC), Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and Media Practitioners from the Community Radio stations in Kono District. The food items donated include: rice, salt, onion etc.
Donating the food stuffs to SLUDI, the Philanthropist-Chairman Koninga noted that the donation was made on behalf of himself and his family to aid the food crisis of SLUDI during the Ramadan month. He said the disable people need to be assisted and cared for by those who have chances in the society.
Chairman Koninga maintained that he will continue to do more for SLUDI and other needy/vulnerable people in Kono District. He called on them to be courageous and accept their present conditions. He therefore admonished the beneficiaries to utilize the donated food items for the intended purpose.
It could be recalled that the benefactor, Chairman Koninga during the Ebola scourge in 2014, whilst the three days Lock Down was effected also donated assorted food items to SLUDI and other needy people in the district.
Receiving the food items on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues (SLUDI) Kono Branch, Komba Charles Karpuwa heaped praises and appreciations on Chairman Koninga for the timely donation of the food items, especially when they are in the month of Ramadan. He said persons with disability had to go to the street to beg before they could survive with their family members during which motors bikes and vehicles do hit them on the street. He said with the help of Chairman Koninga, it will take them time before they get to the street to find food feed.
The SLUDI Chairman appealed to other well meaning stakeholders and institutions to also emulate the good example of Chairman Koninga by assisting them with food stuffs.
“I will ensure the donated food items are shared among the beneficiaries equally and will be used for the intended purpose” the SLUDI Chairman concluded.
Anti-graft messages on the Pay No Bribe Campaign (PNB) implementation was disseminated at the gathering; hand bills, posters, wall bills and stickers depicting the PNB information were also shared among the participants present by the ACC Sub-Regional Office Kono Team.
The vote of thanks was given by Mr. A. A. Sam, Deputy Chief Administrator of the Kono District Council.
