Freetown, Aug. 6, 015 (MOHS) - The Korea Medical Peace Foundation humanitarian organization is to boost the Ministry of Health and Sanitation with a USD 78,000 ultra- modern Health Centre for the Tokeh Community in the Western Rural area.
The $78 thousand US Dollar Project is expected to commence in Augustthis year and completed in December 2015.
Addressing the Tokeh community, the Director of Media Relations Korea Medical Peace Foundation, Ms. Feoung-Soon Park informed her audience that the Medical Peace Foundationwill provide USD 40,000 while the Government of Sierra Leoneprovides counterpart funding of USD 38,000.
She said the Foundation has constructed 21 health facilitiesin different countries including Burundi adding that Sierra Leone would now be the 22nd country to benefit from the projects.
The Director said the project would be equipped with staff quarters medical equipment and when completed would providea perfect structure and good health care system in their community.
She expressed thanks for the warm reception accorded her in Sierra Leone The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health and Sanitation, Mr. David Banya said one of the objectives of the Ministry is to provide affordable, accessible and quality health care services to the people of this country.
He said the Ebola virus disease exposes the weakness in the health system and has laid the foundation to strengthen our health facilities, citing the Korea project as one suchstructurethat would help compliment the ministry’s efforts in building a resilient health system nationwide.
Mr. Banya disclosed government’s plan to establish a National Ambulance service for effective and efficient referral system across the country, adding that support has also been received from the Kuwaiti Fund to develop three tertiary hospitals that would ease the problem of overseas travelling for medical treatment.
Other speakers include Member of Parliament for the Tokeh community in Constituency 93, Hon. Dauda Kallon and the Headman of Tokeh village, Alhaji James Slowe.
