A very serious misconception from a segment of the public is that the former Vice President Alhaji Sam Sumana was relieved off duties for attempting to seek asylum in a foreign embassy. This is totally untrue but is borne out of deliberately fallacious international and local reports filed by unscrupulous Sierra Leone journalists to the world. At no point in time has President Koroma ever stated that he relieved his Vice-President of his duties because the VP went to seek asylum. Rather, the statement from the President was very succinct and precise in saying that whereas his VP no longer had one of continuous constitutional requirements to occupy Office of VP, the President used his Supreme Executive Authority to relieve him of his duties he no longer had constitutional authority to carry out.
The only reason why H.E. the President referenced the asylum bid in the Public Notice was to show that Sam Sumana very well knew that he had lost the constitutional right to remain in office and was thus willing to abandon the Office. For ease of reference, the full text of the exact signed announcement of His Excellency the Supreme Executive Authority of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, is reproduced on below. This will hopefully keep everything in perspective for Posterity and History.
