One accused person Aminata Sillah of No. 1 Hope Well Street, Kissy, in the Freetown Municipality yesterday 2nd February 2017, made her second appearance before Magistrate Albert Moody at the Siaka Steven Street Freetown Magistrate court No.2 for allegedly kidnapping a three (3) month old baby.
Kadiatu Kanu , the mother of the three month old baby testified in court that on Wednesday November 30 2016, she was busy with her child when the accused Aminata Sillah approached her and asked for her Aunty Isatu Kanu . However, she said, she replied to the accused person that her Aunty Isatu Kanu was not around. She added that the accused person told her that she came to see her aunty Isatu Kanu for pregnant medicine. Kadiatu Kanu added that she immediately prepared the medicine for Aminata Sillah but the latter refused to collect the medicine from her and she went away.
Kadiatu Kanu added that the accused person asked whether her Aunty had stopped cooking rice on Sunday. Kadiatu Kanu said that she answered the accused person that her Aunty is still cooking rice on Sunday.
Kadiatu Kanu further that the accused person gave her fifteen thousand Leones to prepared food for her. Kadiatu Kanu added that she left the child there with the accused person and went to Bombeh market.
Kadiatu Kanu also said that few minutes later, the accused person told her that she needed medicine and that the accused person left with the child to buy medicine at Kissy Road, east end of Freetown.
Kadiatu Kanu added that after an hour the accused person did not returned with the child and the accused person called her on her cell phone and asked her about the kind of food the child eats. Kadiatu Kanu said before she replied the accused person cut the call.
Kadiatu Kanu said she then took her cell phone and called the accused person to bring her child but the accused person told her that she was busy and then she hang up the call.
According to Kadiatu Kanu she became worried and went in search of the accused person and later went and reported the matter to the Harbor Police Station .
Kadiatu Kanu said the accused person made a phone call and the three month old baby was brought to the Harbour Police Station. Kadiatu Kanu said that the investigating officer issued a medical request form for the child to be examined at the Rainbow Center at Cottage Hospital in Freetown’
After hearing this testimony, the defense lawyer Ishmael Philip Mammie made an application for bail of her client, who is charged for kidnapping contrary to law, but Magistrate Albert Moody refused to grant bail to the accused person on the seriousness of the allegation and the case was adjourned to Tuesday February 7th 2017, for continuation and the accused person was taken to the Female Correctional Center.
