As the contest to succeed His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma draws high, more names keep surfacing for the emblem carrier position of the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) for the 2018 Presidential election. One of the latest additions to swell the number of persons interested in the said position is Dr. Joseph Sam Sesay.
Dr. Sam Sesay was the former Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security, and he was until his resignation yesterday also serving as Special Adviser to His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

Meanwhile, his resignation followed two other resignations, including another former Special Adviser to the President, Hon. Alpha Kahn; and our former Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, Alimamy Philip Koroma; whom all have shared interest to succeed President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma as flagbearer of the ruling APC in the March 2018 Presidential election.
Speaking to Awareness Times Newspaper Editor late yesterday Thursday 2nd March 2017 during a telephone call conversation, Dr. Sam Sesay confirmed that he already has tendered his resignation to the President of the Republic, and that the President has gracefully accepted his resignation.
When asked about the reason for his resignation, Dr. Sesay confirmed that his main reason for resigning is because he wants to contest for the Presidential Ticket of the ruling APC in the March 2018 scheduled national election.
Explaining his background in the APC, Dr. Sesay said “I join the All Peoples Congress (APC) back in 1976 at 39 Siaka Stevens Street as part of the National Youth League (NYL) when Edward Tamba Kamara (commonly called ETK) was the Secretary General and the NYL was under the tutilage/leadership of the current Speaker of Parliament Hon. SBB Dumbuya, Karankay, Romeo Doherty, Ambassador Alhaji MS Kargbo and many more whom were astute members at that period.”
Ernest Dura Kamara, Personal Assistant to Dr. Sam Sesay confirmed to Awareness Times Newspaper that “in his capacity as Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security, during which sector has witnessed a turnaround especially from subsistence farming to agriculture as a business (agribusiness), he worked very hard to attract donor funding in that Ministry.
Some of these funds were from World Bank, International Fund for Agricultural Development - IFAD, African Development Bank - AfDB, the European Union, the Islamic Development Bank - IsDB, Food and Agricultural Organization - FAO, the World Food Programme - WFP, the African union - AU, Economic Commission of West African States - ECOWAS, the Government of USA, China, Britain, Germany, Italy, Nigeria to name but few.”
Meanwhile, with the resignation of Dr. Sam Sesay and Hon. Alpha Kahn from State House in Freetown, and with two of the President’s advisers now wanting to succeed him, it could be sure that President Koroma is only now left with a single adviser in State House, and that person is Ambassador Dauda Kamara.
