The ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party has on Friday 2nd June 2017 announced that September 5th & 6th is slated for its national delegate’s congress and the election/selection of their party’s presidential candidate for the 2018 presidential election.
Addressing journalists and party stalwarts at APC headquarters in Freetown, the National Secretary General of APC, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansaneh disclosed that pursuant to a unanimous decision on the National Advisory Council meeting that was held on Thursday 1st June 2017, the following resolution was agreed upon; President Ernest Bai Koroma endorsed to continue as Chairman and Leader of the APC, so as to continue to unite and to transition the party. He added that elections or selection of presidential candidate and the appointment of a Running Mate will be endorsed by NAC soon.
Ambassador Yansaneh continues that national executive officers must have served at regional, district or constituency level and they are to be qualified for selection or election. He went on to say that for one to be qualified he/she Must be a paid up and active member in the last 7 years and that would give them the unflinching rights to sign an undertaken to support whoever is elected or selected and institutional knowledge of the party is a Must and have Must satisfied sections in the 1991 Constitution, elections and PPRC acts. He added that aspiring Presidential Candidates and running mates must fulfill the 1991 Constitution on the elections mandates and PPRC Acts, he/she must believe in EBK’s Legacy and ready to continue with it and must have an institutional knowledge of the APC and must have invested financially or otherwise. He continues that aspiring candidates or people intending to be running mates must be a paid up and active member and must be prepared and willing to accept the decision of NAC and support their candidate (s) of their choice.
The APC National Secretary General disclosed that Pre-convention sensitization will commence from the 3rd to 8th July. 10 to 16th July Constituency convention. 19th to 21st District Convention. 24th to 25th Regional Convention. 26th to 27th Youth League, Women’s Wing and Veterans Convention. 5th to 6th September National Delegates Convention in Makeni.
