The Freetown International Airport has on Wednesday 2nd August, 2017, welcomed the Maiden flight of Air Mauritana to Sierra Leone with direct connection to Conakry , Guinea and onward connection to Dakar , Senegal .
The arriving delegation comprised of the head of chancery Mr Nyandemoh and the 3rd secretary Mr kaikai , all from the Sierra Leones Embassy in the Republic of Senegal , other officials and crew of the flight .
Receiving the flight were the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation , Alhaji M. A. Jalloh , representing Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Leonard Balogun Koroma , then Director Africa, MFAIC , Board of Directors and Management of the Airports Authority and the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority .
The flight with routing from Freetown to Conakry and Dakar will operate twice weekly on Wednesday's and Sundays .
Speaking on the different roles played in planning and negotiating the flights arrival , Mr Nyandemo recalled the meeting in 2014 between His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma of the Republic of Sierra Leone and his Excellency the President of the Republic of Mauritania .
President Koroma , at the time mentioned the need for regional connectivity between both countries inorder to facilitate trade and investment .
The meeting between the two presidents places both countries and their ministries of transport and foreign affairs to commence work and to involve all stakeholders.
Mr. Nyandemo commended the roles played by the current Ambassador Madam Ebun Strasser King , the Minister of Transport and Aviation , Leonard Balogun Koroma , the Director of Civil Aviation , Mr. Abubakaar Kamara and The Director General of Foreign Affairs , Madam Khadijatou Bassir , and a host of foreign dignitaries in the two countries.
The acting General Manager of the Sierra Leone Airports Authority, Mr Emile Rogers and Madam Gladys Blanche assured Air Mauritania's directorate of their commitment to safety and security .
They maintained that the Airport has made remarkable progress and thus reaping the benefits of the investments made in its infrastructure, technology and human resource.
Thanking the officials and authorities present, the GSA in Sierra Leone called on passengers to take opportunity of the direct flight to Conakry to promote trade links and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Giving the keynote address, the Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Hon. Alhaji M. A. Jalloh lauded the resilience and timely interventions of his minister who has prioritized connectivity by Air , Land and Sea transportation in the country .
In taking his cue from His Excellency the President , Minister Logus Koroma has completely changed Sierra Leone's Aviation history for good with 4,inaugural flight launchings in 10 months , and a 5th one in December , 2017 .
