His Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has dispatched his Minister of Local Government and Rural Development to travel around the entire country in a bid to popularize the fact that Sierra Leone now has 190 Chiefdoms, 5 regions, 22 local councils, 16 electoral districts of which 14 districts are provincial districts.

The dynamic Local Government Minister has been directed to undertake a national tour that will specially focus on the 41 newly recreated chiefdoms.

As a result, Hon. Maya Kaikai commenced the exercise in the newly recreated Jahn Chiefdom that used to be part of Njaluahun, (Segbwema) in the Eastern Kailahun district. In Jahn chiefdom, the Cabinet Minister assured the people of Government’s support as he spoke of his mission to the area.

Hundreds of people from towns and villages in Jahn Chiefdom converged in their new headquarters of Gbeika town to demonstrate their appreciation for the de-almagamation.

The Paramount chief of Njaluahun chiefdom PC Coker Jajua said he was earlier against the dealmagamation but being that his people wanted it, he accepted.

He said they have all lived as one people with same culture and therefore they must continue to live as brothers and sisters.

Chief Coker apologized to the Jahn people for remarks he had made before and after the dealmagamation, adding ‘’no leader will be pleased when part of his land and people are taking away from him to be governed by another.”

Meanwhile, the Council of Paramount Chiefs of Kailahun expressed their happiness to welcome a new chiefdom. They also spoke of the support they enjoy from the Government of President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma The Council of PCs further congratulated the Regent Chief of Jahn Chiefdom who is former parliamentarian Hon. Sam May McCarthy and all the new regent chiefs around Sierra Leone on their appointment.

Minister Maya Kaikai who himself is a dynamic young man hailing from that same Kailahun district, said Jahn is now a whole Chiefdom on it own, coming into being following the dealmagamation process led by his ministry with full support from the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

The minister said as an independent chiefdom, Jahn will have all the facilities enjoyed by other chiefdoms.

He assured the people of government’s support in the area of Health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, recreational facilities and more.

He warned against violence on women and girls, sexual offences and other felonious crimes. He also called on women to respect and obey their husbands.

The event ended on a very high note. The minister is expected to move to the next stage of the tour which is to visit de-amalgamated chiefdoms in other parts of the South East before he moves up North.
